Safety

At AUHSD, the safety and well-being of our staff, students, and community are our top priorities. We are dedicated to fostering a secure and supportive environment through proactive measures, education, and awareness. By prioritizing safety, we create a space where everyone can learn and work with confidence.

Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP)

In order to maintain a safe and healthful work environment, the AUHSD has developed this Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) for all employees to follow. The document describes the goals, statutory authority, and the responsibilities of all employees under the program. It addresses compliance, hazard identification, and program documentation. By making employee safety a high priority for every employee, we can reduce injuries and illnesses, increase productivity, and promote a safer and healthier environment for all individuals at AUHSD.

Material Safety Data Sheets

Employees who use chemicals in the classroom, cleaning products, sanitizers, or any other chemical should be familiar with 3ESDS. If a dangerous exposure to any chemical occurs, prompt medical attention becomes a necessity.

The 3ESDS information for chemicals used in the district is accessible at all times in the 3ESDS Manual. Once on the website, you can search for the product in use. You will get information about first aid, personal protective equipment, handling/storage, classification, how to transport and the manufacturer/supplier. Accidents are never foreseen or expected but are always around the corner. It's a good idea to know the facts about products you are using before there is an emergency. If a product you are using is not on the list of products, please contact the Safety Coordinator at ext. 20050.

Because the district may be liable for items brought on campus or used by students, AUHSD does not allow use of products from home.

Safety Committee

The district safety committee meets quarterly to:
  • With management support, establish safety objectives and policies
  • Review accident reports to determine development and completion of adequate corrective action
  • Analyze accidents to develop trends
  • Investigate serious accidents
  • Identify unsafe work practices
  • Establish safety topics for training of supervisors and employees

School Safety Plans

Comprehensive School Safety Plans for each district school site are reviewed, updated and approved by March 1st of every year.

For the safety of our staff and students these documents are not made available to the public.
